A timezone label below a WordPress date field can be intentional. In the updated DataForm datetime control, help text appears when the site's timezone differs from the user's. It disappears when they match. Missing help text alone is not evidence that WordPress has changed a date or lost its timezone setting.
Check Which Date Control You Are Using
This behavior belongs to the DataForm datetime control described in Gutenberg change 82291, merged September 2, 2026. The change covers contexts such as the Site Editor's Pages date filter and Quick Edit. It is not a promise that every calendar in every WordPress plugin behaves identically.
Record the WordPress version, whether the Gutenberg plugin is active and the screen where the symptom occurs. A plugin can bundle a different component version or build its own date picker. If its interface has no timezone help, check that plugin's documentation before replacing core files or treating the absence as a regression.
Compare Settings Before Changing a Date
Open Settings > General and record the site's timezone. The WordPress settings documentation distinguishes a named city timezone from a manual UTC offset. Also record the computer or browser timezone used by the person editing the record.
Do not change the production site's timezone merely to make a helper label disappear. That setting affects more than one editor field. Diagnose the mismatch on a test site and preserve the original configuration.

Identify the implementation before applying this fix. |
Test the same record with different and matching site/browser timezones. Check Date filter and Quick Edit separately, then verify the saved instant after reload. Explanatory diagnostic, not a product screenshot.
Reproduce the Same Record in Two Editor Contexts
Use a disposable draft with a recorded ID and date. On staging, choose a site timezone different from the test computer's. Open Pages in the Site Editor, add a Date filter and inspect the help below its input. Then open the draft's Date field in Quick Edit. Record whether both contexts identify the same site zone.
Repeat with matching zones. The helper should disappear in the updated implementation, without requiring a content edit. Keep the selected date constant while testing the label so you can distinguish a presentation change from an accidental value change.
Test with a long named timezone, a manual offset and any existing field description. A compact field can have both a description and timezone help. At a narrow viewport and increased browser zoom, neither should obscure the calendar, current value or action buttons. Use keyboard navigation to reach the input and calendar controls. Do not report an accessibility pass unless the relevant interaction was actually checked.
A Label Is Not a Timestamp Conversion Test
If the saved date is wrong, capture the input value, displayed timezone, submitted request and value returned after reload. Compare the same record before and after saving. A timezone helper can be correct while a custom adapter serializes the value incorrectly.
Use a timestamp with an explicit offset for a controlled diagnostic. For example, the instant 2026-10-22T12:00:00Z displays as 07:00 in America/Chicago and 14:00 in Europe/Copenhagen on that date. Those are different clock readings for one instant, not three separate publication times. A date-only string does not provide the same evidence as an offset-bearing timestamp.
Also test a second date across the relevant daylight-saving change. A manual UTC offset is not a complete substitute for a named timezone's seasonal rules. Document which layer owns conversion instead of applying an extra offset until the displayed number looks right.
When to Escalate
Send the component/build version, site zone, browser zone, record ID, exact screen and a redacted before/after example. Describe whether the defect is missing help, clipped help or a changed stored instant. These are different bugs and need different evidence.
For a post that actually publishes at the wrong time, continue with the scheduled-post timezone and daylight-saving checks. For a reproducible editor integration problem, ask HandL WP to inspect the date-control mapping. Keep the original record and site timezone unchanged until the cause is understood.
