A block can disappear from the WordPress Styles list because the Customized filter is active, not because the block was removed. In builds containing the updated Global Styles list, that filter shows blocks with user customizations. Search narrows the filtered list further. Clear search and switch to All blocks before troubleshooting registration or deleting styles.
Separate the Styles List From the Block Inserter
This guide concerns Site Editor > Styles > Blocks. It does not describe the inserter used to add a block to a page. A filtered Styles list is not evidence that existing content was deleted or that the block cannot render.
Gutenberg change 81373, merged August 18, 2026, adds indicators for user-styled blocks and a filter beside search. Availability depends on the installed WordPress/Gutenberg build and theme context. If the funnel control is absent, establish that version context first. Do not install a beta on a live site solely to obtain this convenience.
Restore the Full List First
Open the filter menu beside the Styles block search field. Choose All blocks, then clear any text in search. Look for the missing block again. If it returns, record which filter or search term hid it. No database repair is needed to resolve that list state.
If it remains absent, confirm the block's actual name, the active theme and any plugin that registers it. Reproduce in an isolated copy with the same versions. Avoid disabling a production plugin just to test a list entry: it may provide live content, checkout behavior or integrations.

Return to All blocks and inspect it there. |
Start with All blocks and empty search. Apply one Quote color customization, check Customized, then reset only that property and inspect any remaining changes. A filtered list is not a record of deleted content.
Use One Disposable Change to Test the Indicator
On staging, start with a block that has no user customization. Record the active style variation and the existing block style values. Choose Quote, change its text color and save through the normal editor flow. Return to Styles > Blocks and check for the customization indicator beside Quote.
Choose Customized and search for the block by name. Then clear search. You are testing two independent conditions: whether the editor detects a user style and whether the current text query matches the entry. A custom palette configured for a specific block can also count as a user customization, so do not limit the investigation to its text color.
Reset the specific color you changed and save. If it was the only customization, the indicator should disappear and the block can leave the Customized view. If the indicator remains, inspect other block-specific changes before calling it stale. Resetting one property is not necessarily the same as removing every customization associated with the block.
This is a controlled test recipe, not a claim that we ran it against your site's theme. Keep screenshots of each list state and the edited property so a developer can repeat the same sequence.
Do Not Treat the Dot as a Complete CSS Audit
The indicator concerns user styles represented by this editor feature. A child theme, plugin stylesheet or custom CSS rule can still change the frontend without being explained by that dot. Conversely, resetting a user override can reveal an inherited value, so the page may remain colored after the customization is removed.
Compare the editor's saved style configuration with the frontend's computed style and the rule that supplies it. The WordPress Global Styles documentation explains the theme styling system. Use the inherited-style reset diagnostic when the problem is a returning visual value rather than a hidden list entry.
Check Keyboard Access and Preserve the Evidence
Reach the funnel button with Tab and open it with Enter or Space. Check that the selected filter is announced and that keyboard users can change it. When using a screen reader, verify the customization indication on relevant rows rather than relying only on a visible dot. Record the browser and assistive technology used; do not infer support from a screenshot.
If the baseline entry stays missing or an indicator contradicts a reproducible saved state, collect the build versions, theme, filter selection, search text and minimal change/reset sequence. HandL WP can inspect a scoped editor or theme regression without starting by removing all Global Styles. Keep unrelated customizations intact.
